"Your child has autism."

Hearing those words is something that no parent can forget.  I know exactly where I was the moment we found out.  I remember crying myself to sleep that night.

Years later, I am here to let parents you don't have to accept a life of hopelessness and despair.  I am here to provide a safe place for parents to discuss all the issues that arise from the moment they first hear the diagnosis:  feelings of fear, anger, disbelief and guilt to problems dealing with extended family and the child's siblings, marital issues, and more.  I will help you THINK differently about your situation and teach you how you can react in new, productive and happier ways.  This will translate into change and growth that can greatly improve your whole life -- not just your interactions with your special son or daughter.

As an autism specialist, I am here for parents who want to learn how to their options for therapies, in addition to how to help their kids learn at home. From my experience, I know there are many fantastic and caring therapists out there, but often their viewpoints and techniques do not mesh with one another.  Figuring out how to create a cohesive therapy program for our daughter was one of the toughest challenges we faced during those years. Early intervention for autism is important.  I can help you navigate these waters during this important time in your child's development.  Each child is different.  Let's talk about your child's specific strengths and challenges, might best help them and how their program will affect the whole family.

Most importantly, I am here to be your support.  In the first two years after our daughter was diagnosed, I was a wreck. There seemed to be no one who understood what I was feeling emotionally. I needed to talk about what I was going through as a person, a parent, a spouse...  It took awhile, but I finally found the help I needed -- and it made all the difference because I could finally really be there for my child.  An autism diagnosis isn't the end of the world, but parents need an autism resource to help them see the possibilities, the hope, how great their child is no matter what the diagnosis says.
